Who Are We
This privacy notice tells you what to expect when Akua Storytelling (“AS”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information. When we do so we are regulated under the General Data Protection Regulation as it applies in the UK, tailored by the Data Protection Act 2018, and we are responsible as ‘controller’ of that personal information for the purposes of those laws.

We only collect information that is necessary to operate Akua Storytelling, fulfil its obligations to you, and keep you informed about us and our activities. We may collect anonymised personal data in relation to your use of the AS website for reporting purposes to Arts Council England and for internal collation with regards project assessment.

Website Users
When you visit our website as a user, we only collect anonymised statistical data relating to the website’s traffic and video usage. This is accomplished by the use of cookies to distinguish you from other users of our site. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse our website and also allows us to improve our site – for more details see Cookies section below.
If you choose to contact us, for instance via email, we will only collect your personal data to the degree that it allows us to reasonably fulfil our obligations to you. This is within our legitimate interests as we may not be able to fulfil any requests, queries, etc. if we were not to do so.
Children
The video content on our website is aimed at children and is accessed by them ostensibly under supervision or the consent of their parent/guardian or schoolteacher. We do not actively attempt to identify a child personally who uses the website and do not actively request such information.
We do however have a mailing list facility which allows anyone who enters an e-mail address to sign up, but this is if you consent to do so.
For the sake of reporting and for us to assess the effectiveness of the video content, our website will only analyse anonymised statistical data of any website user regardless of age. This will again help us to properly assess and improve our website and its video content.

We allow users to sign up to our mailing list for marketing purposes, which can include periodic e-newsletters, updates about events, information about promotions or surveys.

All of our communications via mailing list, for example our e-newsletters, contain an ‘unsubscribe’ option within the email body. This will stop us from sending out any further communication via this method.
